I am a self-taught artist living and working in Bucharest. I started drawing and painting seven years ago, as a form of therapy, focusing a lot on colour as a way of expressing mood and feelings. At the beginning, I was influenced by art brut or outsider art, focusing on raw and grotesque images. After a few years of experimentation, I started including social issues into my naive style paintings, focusing on themes like work, exploitation, discrimination, social inequity. This approach came naturally to me, because I have been covering such themes as a journalist for more than 15 years. Furthermore, my background in social anthropology has contributed to open up my art to social issues. In the future, I would love to experiment with forms of documentary art, researching social issues and expressing the results in written, visual and audio form. Pretty much in the same way this project with food couriers does!
